Caroline L. Osborne is an Associate Professor of Law and the Director of the George R. Farmer, Jr. Law Library at West Virginia University College of Law. There, she is responsible for all aspects of the law library, oversees the first-year course in legal research, and teaches Introduction to Legal Research, Copyright Law, and Cultural Property.
Professor Osborne has over a decade of experience in law libraries. Her prior experience includes positions as a reference librarian at the T.C. Williams School of Law at the University of Richmond and as Director of the Wilbur C. Hall Law Library at the Washington and Lee University School of Law. She is active in national, regional, and international library associations as well as the Southeastern Association of Law Schools, and The Order of the Coif. She is the past president of the Southeastern Chapter of the American Association of Law Libraries and the current Vice – President/ President Elect of the Southeastern Association of Law Schools. She is the Book Review Editor for the International Journal of Legal Information. Her research interests include the intersection of scholarly impact metrics and open access, the pedagogy of research, and copyright. She is the winner of the 2021 and the 2015 American Association of Law Libraries Academic Libraries Special Interest Section Outstanding Article Award.
Professor Osborne received her M.S.L.S. and B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, her J.D. from the T.C. Williams School of Law at the University of Richmond, and her LL. M. in Taxation from Emory University School of Law. Prior to becoming a librarian, she practiced law in North Carolina, Georgia, and New York in the areas of leveraged finance and commercial real estate.
She is admitted to the practice of law in North Carolina (active), Georgia (inactive), and New York (retired).
